WOMEN AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
There are many women currently in college or other learning institution pursuing an education in Information Technology and Cybersecurity. However, the statistics of those who are successful in the in the areas of science, engineering and technology is a staggering 3% out of 57% worldwide!
Technology evolves quickly, and we all (men and women) need to be proficient in all areas because it affects us in every aspect of our lives. Therefore, we must encourage, promote and help all those who aspire a career in one of these areas; particularly women and to give them the tools necessary to become successful in this field. Our guest speaker will enlighten us with information about Women and Information Technology and what you need to know on how to become and IT/Cybersecurity Professional.
Mrs. Temi Akinwumi is the CEO of Top Group Technologies, an information technology company based in Maryland. The company focuses on software development, system engineering, cyber security and workforce development. For over 25 years, Mrs Akinwumi has supported major corporations and federal agencies on mission critical and award winning projects.
An alumni of University of the District of Columbia and University of Maryland, Mrs Akinwumi earned a Bachelors in Computer Science, and dual Masters in CyberSecurity and Software Engineering. She has moderated many technology initiatives including but not limited to WorldBank’s and United Nations STEM for AFRICA with participants worldwide, iASPIRE STEM Club for public schools and iSUCCEED IT training and job placement for the less privilege and troubled youths.
Top Group Technologies was recognized with an award for her grassroot involvement during the 25th year anniversary of the Year of the Child in United Nations. Others include Trailblazer Recognition Awards by US Congress, US Senate, Maryland General Assembly, State of Maryland Governor’s Volunteer Service, Charles County Commissioners and Charles County Commission for Women for dedication, service and leadership in the area of Science, Technology and Empowerment.
